Here’s a look at some of our favourite characters, all of whom she’s pulled off with ease and brilliance.
1. The Head of an International Vigilance Squad in Game
In Abhinay Deo’s 2011 action thriller, Ranaut played the role of Sia Agnihotri, a British police officer who heads the International Vigilance Squad and solves the mystery of billionaire tycoon Kabir Khan’s murder.
Needless to say, she nailed the role.
2. A Mutant in Krrish 3
Krrish 3 is one of our only real superhero movies, complete with sci-fi elements and a shape-shifting mutant,
played by Ranaut. Inspired by Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft, we saw Ranaut play a villainess for the first time.
3. The Leader of a Political Party in Revolver Rani
Ranaut played the role of Alka Singh in Sai Kabir’s satirical flick Revolver Rani, which released in 2014.
In this unusual love story,
Ranaut was portrayed as the leader of a political party obsessively in love with a rising Bollywood actor.
Although the movie itself tanked, Ranaut looked and played her part very convincingly.
4. A Small Town Girl in Queen
One of the biggest highlights of her career, this 2014 movie was a turning point for Ranaut,
who bagged the award for Best Actress at the 60th Filmfare Awards as well as at the 62nd National Film Awards.
Her portrayal of Rani,
a simple, small-town girl whose life takes a drastic turn for the better when she embarks on a solo honeymoon to Europe, had us rooting for her all the way!
5. Double Role in Tanu Weds Manu Returns
One of the highest grossing films in Bollywood, this 2015 release saw Ranaut in a double role -
as the sassy and inimitable Tanuja Trivedi, as well as her doppelganger Datto,
a no-nonsense, tomboy athlete from Haryana. Both avatars were dearly loved by the audiences.
6. Ranaut the Real Life Fashion Model
Earlier this year, Ranaut walked the ramp for designer Manav Gangwani at India Couture Week 2016.
She looked absolutely stunning as Gangwani’s showstopper,
as she sashayed elegantly down the ramp with the poise of a bride. In an interview with a magazine after the walk,
Ranaut was quoted saying that she wants to go all out for her own wedding.
We can’t wait to see what she does then.
7. Goddess Laxmi in a PSA for Cleanliness
Ranaut plays Goddess Laxmi in a Public Service Announcement promoting cleanliness.
Also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Omkar Kapoor and Esha Koppikar,
the campaign urges Indians to help keep their surroundings clean by suggesting that
the goddess of wealth and prosperity only resides in clean spaces.
Here’s hoping the campaign gives Swachh Bharat Abhiyan all the support it needs.
