1) Zabaan Sambhalke
This rib-tickling series, starring Pankaj Kapoor, was a childhood favourite for many of us. But unfortunately, it was ripped off the British sitcom ‘Mind Your Language!’ Many of the characters and even situations were straight-up lifted from the original series.
2) Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi
The plot of this hit series produced by Ekta Kapoor, the ‘Queen of Indian Soaps’, bears suspicious similarities to the plot of the British drama series ‘Wuthering Heights’. How about a new soap, Ekta, ‘Kopy Kats?’
3) Ek Hasina Thi
This show, which only ran for a season, was apparently ‘heavily inspired’ from ABC’s superhit series Revenge. But as ‘karmic justice,’ Ek Hasina Thi couldn’t even come close to the colossal success achieved by the original series, which received several awards and tons of ratings on TV.
4) Yudh
Yep, even Amitabh Bachchan’s debut TV series, has been accused of bearing close resemblances to the plots of not one, but two TV series! The plot of Yudh is shockingly similar to that of American TV series Boss, and also to that of Breaking Bad.
5) Kumkum Bhagya
The ‘Kopy Kats’ make for another entry in this list since Kumkum Bhagya has also been accused of being very similar to the British mini-series, Sense and Sensibility.
6) Sumit Sambhal Lega
Sumit Sambhal Lega, which is an official adaptation of Everybody Loves Raymond, has a plot that is similar to the 90s superhit comedy show ‘Tu Tu Main Main’.
7) Quantico
Priyanka Chopra’s Quantico, which is getting rave reviews all over the world, is also mired with allegations of copied content. In fact, the show’s producer Mark Gordon has been slapped with a lawsuit alleging that the show was lifted off a 1999 documentary aired on CNN. Here’s hoping for the best, Priyanka!
But hey, come to think of it, so many of our Indian viewers got a taste of international programming, thanks to our not-so-original creators! #SilverLining
