When asked why she is proud to be an American, this Miss Hawaaii America said, “We are truly the land of the great. From the rocky shores of ... Hawaii...to the beautiful sandy beaches of ... Hawaii ... America is our home.” That’s called being true to your roots!
2) Jeanie Anderson, Miss Philliphines – 2001
Jeanie was asked to choose between being beautiful and dumb, and being smart and not beautiful. This is how she answered, “Well, I'd rather choose to be beautiful, um because, to be beautiful it's natural. But being smart you can learn...you can learn, um a lot of things...a lot of things from the experience...you can learn from a lot of things being smart.” That made so much sense, beautiful.
3) Minnesota Angelique de Maison, Miss USA – 1995
This one is just plain funny. This model was asked how her career prospects would be affected if affirmative actions were dismantled. Now she clearly had no idea on what AFFIRMATIVE ACTIONS meant, and this is what she blabbered: “I think that affirmative action is important in your career, and I think that they work together, um, I believe that if you stand strong on what you believe, that you should use that in all aspects of your life including your career. I know that I do.” Bravo, girl!
4) Alicia-Monique Blanco, Miss USA – 2009
This one’s a clear example of how to avoid a question. When asked if USA should have universal healthcare as a right of citizenship, she dodged it by saying: “I think this is an issue of integrity regardless of which end of the political spectrum that I stand on. I was raised in a family to know right from wrong and politics, whether or not you fall in the middle, the left or the right, it's an issue of integrity, no matter what your opinion is, and I say that with the utmost conviction.”
5) Giosue Cozzarelli, Miss Panama – 2009
This one will leave you in splits! Clearly Giosue had no idea on who Confucius was, because when asked to explain a quote by Confucius, this is what she had to say: “Good evening Panama!" "Confucius was one of whom invented confusion, and that's why, eh...one of the most ancient, he was one of the Chinese. Japanese who was one of the most ancient. Thank you" (sic). Slow claps.
6) Sanja Papic, Miss Universe – 2003
When asked on whether she would like to be fire or water, Sanja said that, “Well, I'm a human being and I don't know how it is to be fire or water, and from that reason I really don't have answer on this question because I'm a human being, I'm a girl, who has an emotion, and fire and water don't.” Because of this insensitive statement, Fire is “burning” with fury, and Water has burst into tears. Tsk tsk.
7) Priyanka Chopra, Miss World 2000
And to close the list, we have our very own Priyanka Chopra who did not know that Mother Teresa had passed away! When asked to name a successful woman living at the time, Priyanka answered: “There are a lot of people I admire, but one of the most admirable people is Mother Teresa, who has been so compassionate, considerate and kind.” Well, this is awkward.
