The saga of how Aishwarya Rai walked out of Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine, only to be replaced by the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor Khan is as old as it is true. The news of Aishwarya’s sudden pregnancy is said to have miffed Madhur Bhandarkar leading to a bitter fallout between the two.
2. Chalte Chalte
The movie would perhaps have witnessed Aishwarya playing the lead, were it not for the fact that ex-boyfriend Salman decided to create a ruckus on the sets daily until a distraught SRK decided that he’d be better off shooting with Rani Mukherjee instead.
3. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge
Can’t picture anyone other than Shah Rukh playing the role of the adorable Raj? Had fate had its way, you probably would have been made to anyway. It’s rumoured that Aamir Khan was previously approached for the role, but it landed up with SRK ultimately and gifted him one of his biggest career hits. Which we are pretty sure can’t have gone down too well with Aamir.
4. Kaho Na Pyaar Hai
Perhaps Kareena’s backing out from the movie and Ameesha Patel’s subsequent replacement wouldn’t have made news if it weren’t for the fact that Kareena got cold feet well into the shooting of the movie. It is said that fear of being sidelined by Rakesh Roshan’s star son, Hrithik is what compelled Kareena to walk out.
5. Chak De India
You might want to sit down for this one: The role of Kabir Khan was initially written with Salman Khan in mind, but his starry tantrums and point-blank refusal to lower his exorbitant fees ultimately witnessed SRK taking on the lead role. More power to him.
6. Munnabhai MBBS
Yes, the role of Munna was written with SRK in mind and Sanjay Dutt was supposed to be cast as the terminally ill Zaheer. However, Shah Rukh’s sudden back injury resulted in him backing out at the last minute and that is when Sanjay Dutt stepped in & gifted us with one of his most memorable roles as Munna.
7. Kal Ho Na Ho
Believe it or not, the dimpled beauty Preity Zinta wasn’t the first choice for Naina either. Karan Johar was keen on casting close friend Kareena for the role but her exorbitant charges led to much bad blood between the two and Preity landed the role (And several Best Actress trophies) finally.
